Teo / Kleptomaniac
Kleptomania is a mental health disorder characterized by an uncontrollable urge to steal items that are typically not needed for personal use or for their monetary value. People with kleptomania often experience tension before committing theft and relief or gratification afterward, despite the act not being motivated by anger, vengeance, or a desire for personal gain. It’s considered an impulse control disorder and is often accompanied by feelings of guilt, shame, or remorse after the theft. Kleptomania is relatively rare, affecting a small percentage of the population, and it often begins in late adolescence or early adulthood. Treatment for kleptomania typically involves psychotherapy, as also support groups and self-help strategies can be beneficial in managing kleptomania and preventing relapses.
